This is the second painting “Passing By” in the Travellers series. The palette is an earthy natural one which is my favourite choice for colour. Again, as in “The Travellers” both subjects look out to the viewer with minimal expression or gesture. The representational figures are definitely recognizable as woman and young zebra, however the painting does not push too far into realism but hovers in whimsical impression. The narrative is open to every viewer and interpretation. Take from it whatever you wish. “Passing By”, has a quirky sweetness and tells me to stay hopeful. For me there is a touch of melancholy about both figures and I am given no clues as to the ending of this narrative.
